The Learning Network North holds quarterly Network meetings. The meetings are networking events with specific themes, at which presentations are often delivered by invited guests.

Presentations delivered at the Network meetings are posted here.

Network meeting: Friday 9th November 2007
Venue: UHI Executive Offices, Inverness

The theme for this meeting was Online Communication and eLearning. The meeting featured a demonstration of the Learning Network North Portal (lnnportal) by the eLearning Communications Manager, Grainne Hamilton. The aim of the meeting was to show what online facilities are available in the lnnportal and to discuss how those attending might make use of the facilities in their own work and learning practices. Points raised included how the portal can be used to:

  • hold discussions with colleagues and network with others in the sector by using the portal's communication facilities
  • host or participate in online courses, access to which can be fitted around work duties
  • engage in team work, store documents, share calendars etc
  • find information and links to resources relevant to the Social Services sector and the aims of the Learning Networks.

The presentation was followed by discussion on the management of online communities and delivery of eLearning. The meeting also provided opportunity for those attending to feed in to the future work of the Learning Network North.

Information on the lnnportal: lnnportal support pages.

Network meeting: Friday 10th August 2007
Venue: Banff & Buchan Room, Woodhill Annexe, Woodhill House, Westburn Road, Aberdeen

The topic for this Network meeting was Research in the Social Care Setting. The aim was to look at the issue of research from both the national and local perspectives and for the Network to facilitate an opportunity for attendees to share their experience or question how to introduce research techniques within their own organisations.

The speakers for this event were Kate Skinner (SIESWE) and Pedro Morago (Lecturer at Robert Gordon University). Breakout groups, feedback opportunities and personal networking time followed the presentations.

Kate Skinner's presentation: Producing a Research and Development Strategy.

Pedro Morago's presentation: An Introduction to Evidence-Based Practice.
