event: Online Communication CourseImage of a group of people.

Third run, 26th May – 13th June 2008

The third run of the Learning Network North’s free Online Communication Course took place from the 26th May – 13th June 2008.

The part time eLearning course was developed and delivered jointly by the Learning Network North and Robert Gordon University.  Participants were introduced to different forms of online communication and learnt about effective practice in moderating online interactions.  Within a supportive and collaborative setting, participants experienced learning online, engaged in online discussions, accessed literature on forms of online communication, learnt how to create an online community and moderate online interactions, and by the end of the course had developed the skills required to lead a live group discussion online.

Participants had the opportunity to gain practical experience of a range of communication facilities which included: discussion rooms, live chat, blogs, wikis, online databases, RSS feeds and more. For most of the participants, the course provided their first experience of many of these kinds of facilities but everyone rose to the challenge and numerous ideas were generated about how these types of facilities could aid them in their own work setting.

The course was hosted in the Learning Network North Portal and was booked up in under two days. Given the popularity of the course it was somewhat unfortunate that a few participants did not complete the course. As a consequence and due to the high number of applications we will be looking at ways in which we can enable individuals to fully commit themselves for the time required when we run the course again later in the year. For those who did complete, we would like to extend our congratulations and hope you will continue to use your newly acquired skills.
