How do I access the portal and sites within it?
To access the portal and sites within it, you need to have a portal account. The portal is essentially a secure online environment where numerous sites can be hosted. For privacy and security, users must have an account to access the portal and sites. For a full overview of how to get a portal account, create your own portal profile and enrol on sites, click here. You can access more specific information on how to login or how to create your own profile, below.

How do I create a portal account?
You can create your own portal account in 10 easy steps. To set up an account, you will require an email address - a confirmation email will be sent to this address when you create your account. (If you do not have an email address, you can set up a free address with providers such as Google, Hotmail or Yahoo amongst others.) Click here for information on how to create a portal account.

How do I login to the portal?
Click here for information on how to login to the portal.

How do I set up my own profile in the portal?
You can specify what information you want others to see about yourself in your profile page. You can also set accessibility and security options here. Click here for information on how to create and modify your own profile.

How can I specify how I receive information from the portal and what features I want to use?
You can specify how you receive information from the portal and what features you want to use when you are accessing the portal from your profile page. Click here for information on how to modify your profile.

Can I request a site to be set up for my own community, course or group?
Yes you can. To request a site, you will need to fill out a form with some details about the site. Click here to request a site.

Who do I contact if I am having problems with the portal?
If you are having problems with the portal, please refer to any support documentation to see if you question or problem is addressed there. If it is not and the problem is related to a site or another site participant, contact the site facilitator / tutor in the first instance. Site facilitators are listed beneath the site name on your site list page. They may then pass on information to the portal administrator. You can find more information about who to contact for what and contact details on the Contact Us page.

Can I find support information within the portal?
Guidance and support information can be found in all portal sites. You will also find links to these support pages on the right hand side of the portal site.

Can I receive training in use of the portal?
Yes, we are happy to provide training or run awareness raising sessions about the portal. We can provide advice and training and this might be particularly relevant if you request a site to be set up for your own community, course or group. Again, please refer to the Contact Us page for contact details to request training.

If the portal is unavailable, who would I contact and how long will it take for the portal to be re-instated?
Again, information on who to contact if the portal is unavailable is contained in the Contact Us page. We aim to provide a stable and reliable service and sites within the portal are backed-up regularly. It is not possible to say how long an interruption to service would take to be resolved but we do have support systems in place to try to minimise any disruption and inconvenience.

Can I post materials to the portal?
You can post materials that are relevant to your community, course or group site. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have obtained appropriate copyright authority before posting any materials within the portal. There are size limits for files you can upload which are defined when you select a file to upload. If you wish to use content posted by another portal user, you must gain their prior permission and acknowledge the source of the original material in your use of it. We do recommend that you keep a separate copy of any materials you host within the portal.
