Introduction:
Registration is concerned with raising standards in the social services and ensuring service users receive high quality services from confident and competent staff.
There are around 138,000 social services workers in Scotland. Registration is a part of the drive for higher standards in Scotland's social services. Registration for social services workers workers was introduced through the Regulation of Care (Scotland) Act 2001. The Register of Social Service Workers in Scotland opened on 1 April 2003. It is maintained by the Scottish Social Services Council. The law requires that the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) is assured of the good character, conduct and competence of all applicants to the register. The Learning Network supports staff engagement with registration and post registration requirements.
