Implementing the Adult Support and Protection Act (Scotland) 2007 The Scottish Government has introduced new legislation to protect people from being harmed.  It is called the Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act. Funded by the Scottish Government, the Workforce Initiative* has designed and developed a set of learning materials to underpin the Act.  Arising from this a resource pack, Tell Someone, has been produced. Scottish Government funding has been continued to allow Tell Someone to be disseminated to all Care Commission registered adult care services in Scotland, including services for older people, across the private and voluntary sectors. The accompanying Information & Guidance, Dates & Venues and Application Form clarify how this is to be done and it also invites your organisation to apply for a place on the series of Training the Trainers courses which will be run throughout Scotland in June, August and September. Planning for Practice Learning West of Scotland - All students undertaking the Social Work Degree, introduced to Scotland in 2004, undertake 200 days of practice learning assessed by a practice teacher. This requirement is seen as key to ensuring that social workers are equipped with the knowledge, skills and values to enable them to support and protect service users and carers, and to meet the increasingly complex challenges for social workers in Scotland identified by ‘Changing Lives’ (Scottish Executive, 2006).Locating sufficient practice learning opportunities (PLOs) has been a long-standing challenge in social work education, but there are concerns in the West of Scotland that it is becoming increasingly difficult to meet demand for PLOs.In May 2008 the Scottish Social Services Learning Network West commissioned a study to inform development of a more proactive and anticipatory approach to the provision of practice learning. The study, carried out by external consultants, brings together a range of evidence, based on the research literature, local audit, and a review of a range of practice learning models in social work and other professions, and makes recommendations to inform the development of a strategic plan for practice learning in the West of Scotland.
